It is a common sight to see trucks plying on the roads and highways in the country with rods that protrude dangerously out of the backs of these vehicles, as shown in a picture printed in our paper on November 16.
হরহামেশ সড়ক ও মহাসড়কে রড বোঝাই ট্রাক দাড়িয়ে থাকা একটা অতি পরিচিত দৃশ্য। যেখানে রড যানবাহনের পিছনের দিক থেকে মারাত্মক ভাবে বেরিয়ে থাকে। গত ১৬ নভেম্বর আমাদের খবরের কাগজে ঠিক একই রকম ছবি দেখানো হয়েছিলা।
It is natural for some of these objects to come lose and become flying projectiles and kill or maim people who happen to be travelling behind.
এই ধরণের জিনিসের ক্ষেত্রে এটা খুবই স্বাভাবিক ভাবে হয়ে থাকে এবং একটি গতিশীল প্রজেক্ট হিসেবে এর পিছন দিক থেকে যারা আসে তাদেরকে নিহত বা আহত করে।
Although no exact data of such casualties exist in the country, the practice poses a clear and present danger.
যদিও এ ধরণের ঘটনার কোন সঠিক পরিসংখ্যানের অস্তিত্ব দেশে নেই, কন্তিু এ অপচর্চা অত্যন্ত স্পস্টভাবে বিপদের জানান দেয়।
The scenario is not unique to Bangladesh.
বাংলাদেশে এ দৃশ্য অদ্বিতীয় নয়।
In fact, the Indian Supreme Court in August 2016 has called for strict implementation of a ban on killer trucks with iron rods protruding out which has taken 40,000 lives in road accidents in the past two years.
বস্তুত, ভারতের সুপ্রিম কোর্ট ২০১৬ সালের আগস্ট মাসে রড বোঝাই ট্রাকের দুর্ঘটনায় কঠোর আইন প্রয়োগের উপর জোড় দিয়েছে। যেখানে এসব দুর্ঘটনায়, গত দু-বছরে ৪০,০০০ মানুষের প্রাণহানি ঘটে।
